BIOGRAPHY
I completed Medical School, Anesthesiology Residency, and Neuroanesthesiology Fellowship at the University of Florida and have spent my career at The University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas. My career thus far has been in an academic teaching environment with responsibilities including patient care, education of all levels of learners in medicine, and high level administrative roles including chief of service, chief of staff, Director of Resident Recruitment, Director Pre-surgical Assessment Clinic, and I am currently the Director of Obstetrical Anesthesiology at Clements University Hospital at UTSW, and the Vice Chairman for the ASA’s Committee on Women in Anesthesia. I will become the chair of this committee in 2021. Preventing physician burnout and promoting physician wellness have become my passion after experiencing several episodes of burnout during my career. My passion for these topics lead me to write a recently published article entitled, “Female Physician Wellness: Are Our Expectations of Ourselves Extreme?”
Other wellness initiatives include being a member of the University of Texas Southwestern’s University Physician Wellness Committee as well as a member of the Department of Anesthesiology Faculty Wellness Committee and the American Society of Anesthesiologists Physician Wellbeing Workgroups.

Within each of these groups I have done significant work surrounding physician resilience and well-being. I am looking forward to continuing the efforts for Women in Anesthesia through my new vice chair/chair role. I recently had a panel that I put together at the ASA Practice Management Meeting 1/20, which spoke to gender bias and why it is critical to have women in leadership roles in medicine/business and the diversity they offer.
